How to Start a Japanese Head Spa Business in Australia

What it actually takes to add head spa as a service line — equipment, training and the numbers.

Opening a Japanese head spa business in Australia is simpler than most people expect, but it does need to happen in the right order. Skipping the practical training step is the single biggest reason we see new studios stall in their first year.

Step One: Get Certified In Person

Australia has no formal licensing body for head spa specifically, which means your certification is effectively your credibility with clients, landlords and insurers. We only teach in person for this reason – a certificate that cannot demonstrate real, corrected technique does not hold up when a client asks who trained you.

Step Two: Decide On Equipment

You do not need a full-recline bed to start. A portable unit and a steamer are enough for a mobile or single-room setup, and can be upgraded once bookings justify it. This is exactly why we built Business in a Box as tiers rather than one fixed package.

Most new studios over-invest in equipment and under-invest in actually filling the calendar. Start smaller than you think you need to.

Step Three: Price And List Your Service

Head spa is still a new category for most Australian clients, so your price list needs a short explanation of what the ritual involves, not just a number. Our graduates who list on the Certified Directory tend to fill their first month fastest, simply because clients trust a verified trainer network over an unfamiliar new service.
